Kushal clinches chess title

GUWAHATI, July 1 – Kushal Bharat Bgagdia became Guwahati champion by scoring 6.5 points from 7 rounds in the open event in the Late Brahamadutta Sarma Bordoloi Guwahati Chess Championship organized by Guwahati Chess Association. Satyabrat Handique scored 5 points from same number of rounds and clinched second position. Lachit Boro and Nirmal Jyoti Sarma also scored 5 points each but they are declared third and fourth respectively on the basis of tiebreak score.

Ravikant Tiwari, Debashish Borpujari and Chiranjeet Boro got first, second and third position in the U-19 (boys) category. Debanga Koushik Bhattacharyya and Shreya Banik became champions in U-17 boys and U-17 girls categories respectively.

Anubhav Deva Sarma scored 5 points from 6 rounds in U-15 category and clinched the title. Rishav Deuri also scored 5 points in this group but declared second on the basis of tie-break score. Ashrant Tewari and Aryaman Tewari scored 4.5 and 4 points respectively and placed third and fourth respectively.

In U-13 category, Shivangini Bhattacharyya won the title with 5 points while Prasurjya Das scored 4.5 points to be placed in second. Amlan Mahanta scored 4 points and Prachurjya Gayan scored 3.5 points got third and fourth position respectively.

In U-11 category, Aryan Sonowal scored 5 points from 5 rounds and became champion. Jigyashdipta Gogoi (3.5 points), Mrityunjoy Kumar Deb and Kunal Kalita (3 points each) got third and fourth positions respectively. In U-9 category, Manthan Kashyap Datta became champion with 6 points. Prithwis Das scored 5 points from same number of round to be placed in second position. Ahiran Rinav Sarma and Rishita Sinha scored 4 points and 3 points respectively and placed third and fourth. In U-7 category, Akanksha Das became champion. She scored 3.5 points while Sulaksana Sarma came second.

Dwizomoni Singh won the title in the veteran category.

Anil Krishna Mishra, president of Guwahati Chess Association presided over in the prize distribution ceremony.
