Bg8 with idea of Rg6+, followed by Bf7 threatening discovered checks or Ng4 threatening mate
1. Bg8
and I cannot find any defence to the threatened
2. Rg6+ Kh5
3. Rg5+ Kh4 (3 … Kh6 4. Ng4#)
4. Ng2#
1. Bg8 looks like a winner. White is threatening 2. Rg6+ followed by 3. Rg5+
If Black does nothing, for instance 1. .. c6 then White carries out the threat: 2. Rg6+ Kh5 3. Rg5+ Kh4 (3. ..Kh6 4. Ng4#) 4. Ng2#
Black can try 1. .. Nf6 but loses a piece right away by 2. Rg6+ Kh5 3.Rxf6 and is still in the mating net.
Black can also try 1. .. Ng7 but then gets mated by 2. Ng4+ Kh5 3. Nf6+ Kh4 (3. .. Kh6 4. Rg6#) 4. Rg4#
easy one…
its mate in two!!!!!
1. Bg8, threatening
2. Rg6+ Kh5
3. Rg5+
3. … Kh6
4. Ng4#
3. … Kh4
4. Ng2#
1. Bg8!!
(threatening Rg6+ Rg5+ Ng4+/Ng2+ checkmate to which there is no decent defense)
1. Bg8
1. Bg8 threatens Rg6+ Rg5+, and Ng4# or Ng2#. 1…B:f5 fails to 2. N:f5+ and 3. Rg5#
The only defense to the mate threat appears to be 1…Rb2, pinning white’s R, but of course that loses a R.
Bg8 and Black has to give up rook.
1. Bg8!
Threatens 2.Rg6+
Whatever Black does, it is mate, e.g.:
1. … Ng7
2. Rg6+ Kh5
3. Rg5+ Kh6/h4
4. Ng4/g2#
If 1. … Bxf5 then
2. Nxf5+ Kh4
3. Rg5# mates even quicker.
Took me a few minutes to puzzle out the first move. Of course, one wants to play Rg6, but black’s king reaches h7 (Kh5 is a quick mate after Bd1+), and I could never find the time to bring white’s forces to net the king, or any of black’s pieces. However, seeing the importance of h7 concentrates the mind on playing a quieter first move:
1. Bg8!
Threatening Rg6+ and mate by either Ng2 or Ng4. Black can cover g4 preemptively with either Bxf5 or Nf6, but black will lose those pieces at a minimum through skewers, or even quicker mates:
1. …..Bf5
2. Nf5 Kh5
3. Rg5#
Or
1. …..Nf6
2. Rf6 and black has just lost a piece, and there is probably still a forced mate in here somewhere.
