Kramnik will win back his crown in 2008.
Uh, OK, nice art.
Very nice and thoughtful piece Gabor.
This is my favorite so far. Go Kramnik!
Anyone in the top four can be or could be world champion. Kamsky, a long shot, might be…he’s a great player and he certainly proved his chess abilities in by winning his most recent tournament.
IF, he defeats Topalov…then, it will be a good thing for American chess: win or lose.
I think Kamsky will beat Topolov…Topalov plays too risky and with a single win by Kamsky….barring no defeats….he can draw his way victory…which is what I would do to win the match.
You know, the 2700+ club are a hard group to predict. Kramnik, Anand, Topalov, Kamsky, all the others…they can play against each other day after day and on one day dominate and the next lose every time.
They are all great in the arena of chess. I wouldn’t count Kamsky out as a possible future World Champion (note: “Possible”) because when you’re at that level…it’s beyond most chess players’ comprehension why certain moves are made.
Nevertheless, in human vs human competition, it’s going to come down to:
Anand, Kramnik, Kamsky, Topalov as to who is the next world chess champion.
Regardless, none of them…or, better yet, all of them put together as a team, could not defeat RYBKA in a regular match.
Note: I said “match”…together…they could perhaps get a draw in one game.
And people wonder who is better.
When these guys go back to their hotel rooms at night and analyze their games….hmmmm, what program do they use?
Point: Computer chess programs are the best and it is sad that the world champion, and WCC candidates will not play RYBKA under normal time control.
Play as a team against the computer…do it for charity…do it for free….just do it.
The mere spectacle of such human chess superstars coming together as a team and playing a match against the best computer chess program would be history in the making.
They should think of their legacy. If all refuse to play the BEST (Kramnik vs Frits wasn’t the “best” because Fritz isn’t the best program) programs then history will show that they were either to egotistical to lose….or, just didn’t get enought money.
Geez, what a team that would be!
But, they don’t like each other….especially Kramnik and Topalov…
But, if vanity could be set aside and these people could play as a team against Rybka or any other top program, it would certainly boost the dismal state of the image chess has at this moment in history.
But, it will not happen. Each are too self-centered, hate each other, and don’t care about the rest of the chess world.
Hmmm, what if FIDE said that to be the WCC you had to perform in a charity event along with the top four players in the world against a computer….or forfeit the title.
The winnner of the WCC doesn’t “own” the title. WE do..the chess players….
without the fans, chess would be nothing…and it’s already about nothing outside of a narrow margin of society.
This is why I pay more attention to who my next state champ will be than the next world champ. At least at the state level the competition can’t be so worried about the money…there isn’t that much…
How sad is the state of affairs in the realm of the world chess champion arena.

Geez I didn’t know they allow such long posts…
that piece of art is interesting, it reflexes the artist’s point of view, I would even dare to say is somehow good, but I would not give one penny for it since Vishy Anand the one who made that ‘king’ fall is not in it
I also think that to try to make Kasparov the greatest chess player of all times look like loser in whichever chess related art piece is simply foolish and of no good taste
note: if there is art in chess kasparov is part of it
This ‘artwork’ is biased.
Leko did not lose to Kramnik. The match was a draw.
Kramnik only retained his ‘title’ by virtue of an unfair provision.
On the contrary, the art piece was very accurate!
Please notice that GM Kramnik is not wearing any crowns!
heh.
Responses about some of the remarks:

I made the picture composition much before Anand won in Mexico, right after Kramnik defeated Topalov.

The picture is not about Kasparov, not about Fischer, not about Karpov, not about Capablanca, not about great many other chess players, it is about Kramnik defeating Topalov and my thoughts related to that.

This is an art piece, not a fairness evaluation of the chess world.
“This ‘artwork’ is biased.

It doesn’t say that he did. In fact, there are no words in the picture whatsoever. You’re imagining things.
“This ‘artwork’ is biased.”
Noooooo!!! You’re saying you think the artist likes Kramnik? How long did it take you to figure that out?
My dog told me. Call Geraldo.

I don’t LIKE any chess players more than another. I like chess itself. I never emotionally attached myself to any particular chess player. It’s just not my style. In that particular instance Kramnik won and that’s how it all came through my mind. If Topalov would have won, I would have put him in the center of the picture. I never quite understood the way people fought over this, I never really understood it.
Hey, it looks like Kramnik is dreaming about himself.
A modest portrait for a modest guy!
