Kramnik’s effort to win this tournament fell 1/2 point short as he finished in clear fourth behind a 3-way tie for first between Topalov, Aronian and Radjabov. However, he played an impressive last game to defeat VanWely. Kramnik is also one of two players who did not lose a single game. The other player is Aronian.

No offense, but “Kramnik wins in impressive fashion to capture 4th in Corus”. Is this really an impressive headline for a World Champion? Capturing 4th place?
No disrespect intended Susan, I know it’s your blog and I do enjoy it, whether or not I agree with all of your opinions. Kramnik had a good win and all, but still…this guy has to start fighting in these tournaments. His games were always the ones that I paid the least attention to, knowing that he seemed to have very little interest in a fight. Karpov also had a similar style based on small advantages, but he knew how to fight to win games with it, and he won tournaments.
Study the game.

Alas, it is his win that is impressive, not the tournament result.
you don’t see the humor in Susan’s words, do you….
Not losing a single game along with Aronian that’s an impresive performance. Does he has to prove he’s the CHESS WORLD CHAMPION every time? I don’t think so, he’s already proven that against the “#2” rated player [Kaspie still’s #1 even if his rating 2813 (2851 his Max)doesn’t appear no more in the FIDE list].
Yeah, Tiletov lost 2
Yes I agree that Kramnik does not have to proof anything. He is just champion and we are happy to see such a chess genious we have and such a gentelman player is champion!
Some guys waiting that champion must win all tournaments, all games, all matches.
They will be convinced only if Kramnik had 13 points in 13 games!
This is funny. He is blamed to have so much draws. He is a human and may be did not want to force games in this tournament. After 2nd or 3rd game of tournament I had claimed that he will continue simple draws and won’t force to win unless there is a clear attack possibility.
Because I belive he cares about WCC games not tournaments before it. We will surely see a fighting Kramnik in Mexico!
OK guys, disregarding the “Topalov lost the match. Get over it.”, Topalov sucks, blah, blah, blah infantile nonsense.
All I’m saying is Kramnik needs to fight more. Who cares if he goes through a 10 round tournament with no loses, only 10 draws. Who’s impressed with that? How is this good for the game? When is this guy going to start to TRY(!) to win tournaments? As a matter of fact, what was the last tournament that he’s won?
If Susan was being humorous.. Good one!
Kramnik made 10 (ten) draws of 13 (thirteen) games. Enough said.
Got to be said, Kramnik was the most boring player on this tournament. Even the journalists there were not interested in him… What i saw there – a lonely person talking with Svidler only, ignored by the other players and the press.
Personally, i’m happy for the young Radjabov and Topalov.
“Kramnik wins in impressive fashion to capture 4th in Corus”
haha… amazing 🙂
last tourn Kramnik won was Dortmund 2006!
Kramnik’s last win is indeed impressive and beautiful.
He finished just half point behind the winner(s), and did not loosea single game!
Congratulations to my countryman Radjabov! I am glad Mamedyarov won Essent and Radjabov won CapAdage and Corus during the last 3 months.
It is unfortunate that none of them plays in Mexico.
I was impressed by the 5 in a raw loss of Shirov. A bit disappointed by Anand. Svidler is very unstable.
Azer/Baku
Congrats to Topalov, who continues to prove that he is one of the best if not THE best tournament player in the world right now. His fighting spirit is refreshing in light of the current modern day “drawmeisters”. And you know who I’m talking about.
Hello,
impressive and unexpected win for K.
Svidler K’s. sec. lost unexpected to that player who now lost inexpected to K.
Is that possible that it was agreed ?
N.
Of course, Toiletov (Topalov) may be one of the best tournament players of the world nowadays specially if he’s being signaled by Cheatalov (Dainalov) after every move by his opponent or if he’s playing against me, an amateur player. But, One thing is certain…he lost the WCC Match even with a free point. So, a match player surely he ain’t. May as well he goes to play poker and be a cheat, he’ll be able to make more money that way.
Kramnik won with a system I usually play on internet. I felt like me playing white. He did all the correct moves, but he only tries this on much weaker players. With +2700 he turns to safe mode.
krammik = unbeatable
Kramnik finished in second place with 10 draws, 2 wins and no losses. It made me realize that you can do quite well in a tournament by taking draws instead of risking a loss. This strategy may not work as well in US Swiss but I am thinking of using a similar strategy in my next local round robin tournament. Play it safe against the top board and unleashed shock and awe on the lower board. A good way to safeguard your rating.
she is being sarcastic, of course. who can write such a title with a straight face about the world champion and be considered an objective commentator. sadly, kramnik is so damn boring and genuinlely sucks in exciting the next generation of chess players (susan’s goal, i think…) and, he is the least inspiring champion one could possibly imagine… he is no fischer, kasparov or even topalov, who have lured so many newcomers to the world of chess with their style.
Funny title, Suzan
You can also revise the blogs about the last world championship match and entitle them: “Topalov captures second place!!! Kramnik finishes last-but-one…” 🙂
