Peter Leko will play a rapid match against World Champion Vladimir Kramnik from April 24-29 at National Theater of Miskolc, Hungary.
This time, it will be an 8 game rapid match.
In 2005, Leko drew Adams 4-4. In 2006, Leko defeated Karpov 4.5-3.5 with 7 draws and 1 win.
How will Leko do against Kramnik? Do you prefer to watch Fritz versus Junior or Leko versus Kramnik?
Here is the official website.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Well, Leko’s come closer than anyone to defeating Kramnik in a world championship match. But on the other hand, he hasn’t done as well lately, and never seems to have fully recovered from that last game defeat. But on the third hand, these exhibition matches always seem to end in draws. But on the fourt hand, I’ve run out of hands.
“Do you prefer to watch Fritz versus Junior or Leko versus Kramnik?”
This can’t be a serious question – if anyone tells me she/he prefers a match versus the computer I couldn’t understand her/him.
A match between two normal chess players is much more interesting to me!
Good luck to both I hope Leko won’t break in….

Hello again,
I have to admit I haven’t read very well.
I thought you asked if a game Kramnik-Fritz or Kramnik-Leko was more interesting…
A match between two PCs is much more interesting than PC vs Human (I can’t understand the excitings about these matches…) but it is still not at all so interesting like a match human vs. human.
Sorry, I should learn reading. 🙂

Kramnik will win
I strongly prefer watching humans play chess. No contest here.
However, the Junior Fritz match will be interesting and I intend to watch it also. It will be my first time watching 2 computers play against each other. The $100,000 prize money definitely makes it a bit more interesting then a plain computer game.
FRITZ-JUNIOR? No thank you: FRITZ does not justify a position at the top table in a computer-computer match. It has not been competitive in C-C terms for some time.
Perhaps you mentioned it because it has ‘brand value’.
JUNIOR is still ‘up there’ and plays attacking chess. RYBKA 2.3.1, HIARCS 11.1, JUNIOR 10.1, FRUIT 2.2.1 and SHREDDER 10 (& 9) heads the SSDF table before FRITZ 9 appears (155 ELO points behind RYBKA 2.3.1).
FRITZ 10 has not been rated yet.
“Do you prefer to watch Fritz versus Junior or Leko versus Kramnik?”
I prefer to watch paint drying, or wait for a kettle boiling. Or watch a dull movie 20 times.
Why oh why does Fritz keep being mentioned when it’s a well known fact that it is far weaker than Rybka???
I’d rather watch humans play but if I had to watch computers play…then it wouldn’t be Fritz….it would be the best program (i.e. Rybka) vs….the world. Just like “Kasparov vs the world.”
Now that would be interesting!
Kramnik vs Leko will be a great rematch but I think Kramnik will take him this time unless Leko gets his groove back.
I also will enjoy Deep Fritz vs Deep Junior because of their playing styles. I am rooting for Deep Fritz though since I own it. I bought the latest Rybka and use it though as the engine in both my Fritz program and Chess Assistant Database for analysis.
Now who wants to challenge my Deep Fritz with Rybka 2.3.1 engine!
just like windows is NOT the most reliable system no matter what billy tells you, fritz is NOT the strongest chess software out there.
my rybka is beating my fritz. true, i have crappy hardware. true, i dont have the latest versions of either. but hey, same set up for both engines.
that issue aside, why would i watch THAT instead of human play?
…even tho, todays GMs do play awful lot like machines. wheres the next misha tal?
The reason why Susan said ‘Fritz v Junior’ is because there will be an actual match between the two for $100,000 this year in Elista.
I think everyone and their momma has heard about how wonderful Rybka is by now so it’s hardly worthwhile to mention it AGAIN.
I would have to say I prefer the Kramnik-Leko match because they both play logical chess and if one of them defeats the other it will be with superior positional play, which is very educational for the rest of us.
As for the computer match, well, when it comes to counting ply the thickness of my toilet paper matters far more to me than the depth of one engine’s search algorithim compared to anothers.
anywhere to watch to match live?
