The long awaited Fischer Random, Rapid and finally Blitz event with Kasparov, Karpov, Korchnoi and my sister Judit has just concluded.
Kasparov and Karpov ended up in a tie for first with an incredible 4.5 / 6 score.
Judit came in 3rd at 2.5 / 6 while Korchnoi only managed to draw 1 game out of 6 against Kasparov.
Here is the official website.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Are you REALLY Susan Polgar??!! Wow!!!!
I always said Karpov would come in first. The reason is (I believe) Karpov is the most naturally gifted player out there.
I was surprised by Kasparov. I always thought Kasparov’s success was due to his extremely good calculation ability, memory and intelligence.
Regardless, it was good to see the highest rated players prove that there is a reason why they were world champions.
regards.
Why did Judit play a cheap-looking piece sacrifice as white against Kasparov on move 13. in a Sicilian?
Surely you have to play sensible and patient moves to have any chance against Kasparov?
vvchess,
Why the surprise about Kasparov?
‘He’ has positive score against
Karpov in blitz games.
As concerns ‘ calculation ability, memory ,chess knowledge and intuition all of them are pretty good (I think).
BTW,as concerns general intelligence quotient (IQ) it just
about 130.
“It was dominated by Kasparov and Karpov, who drew their hard-fought games against each other.”, according to Chessbase News. Kasparov played novelties in both games.
In Game #2, they played 9 book and only 11 out-of-book moves before drawing. I hardly call that “hard-fought”. I figure they were satisfied to share first-place and weren’t eager to prove who was best.
Thanks for your input, gk.
wow! I always thought gary had an astronomical IQ like fischer (which I am assuming is true).
But then IQ is not the only thing that makes one good at chess.
That was a revelation.
