I guess 1. Kb4 Ka6 2.c4 dxc4 3. Kxc4 Kb6 4. Kb4 Ka6 5. Kc5 and white wins.
I hope i have not overlooked any trick that black can use to get this game to draw
1. Kb4 c5 may lead to a draw.
My suggestion is 1. c4
Black has several replies. Here is an exemplary line
1.. dxc4
2. Kb4 Kb7
3. Kxc4 Kb6
4. c3 e5
4. d5 +-
To ano number 1:
You miss at least one important variation.
1. Kb4, c5+! and now
2. dxc5+, Kc6 3. c4, d4! or 3. Ka3/b3, Kxc5 (**)
or 2. Kb3 Kb5! (c4? 3. Kb4!) (*)
(*) If white king goes to a2/b2 black can finally close the position with c4.
This is a draw now. White can’t enter to the left and if he tries to the right (d5 via e5) black attacks c2 and c3 and that is fast enough.
(**) That is drawn, too – white can’t go via left and if he goes via c1 black plays Kc4 and d4.
Best seems to be 2. Ka4! which probably wins (without board I am not quite getting it at that early time)
Another idea I had is playing 1. c4! .
E.g. 1. -, dxc4 2. Kb4 3. Kc4 white enters c5 using his tempo c3! and than d5! 1:0
So a better defense probably is: 1. -, Ka5
2. Kb3! and black can’t avoid white’s king entering. (some “easy” moves later 1:0).
I think 1. c4 wins; I am not quite sure if 1. Kb4, c5+!? 2. Ka4 wins, too but I think so.
So there are two winning variations!?
Greetings
Jochen
PS: it took me too long time to post; inbetween egaion posted something similar…
I think
1. Kb4, c5+! and now
2. dxc5+, Kc6 3. c4, d4!
wins also:
4. Ka4! Kxc5
5. Kb3 and what now?
… d3 loses immediately
… Kb6 or Kd6 and there’s no
way to stop the c-pawn.
nice one Susan.
