Hmm…
White easily wins bishop and is up with rook with 1. b7 Bd6 2. b8=Q etc., but then black d pawn (and all pawns) look too strong.
Looking for “something special” I find:
1. Rxc5 (!?) Rxc5
2. b7! (Rb1? Rd8 looks no good) Rb5
3. Ra5! (a sack theme we have seen before)
3. … Rxa5 (enforced because of the pin)
4. b8=Q+
and white is up with Q for R.
But, black pawns are still strong, so I am far from sure that this is correct, the continuation is unclear to me:-)
But this was the only combination I could see….
For the lack of alternatives, it simply has to be:
1. Rxc5 Rxc5
2. b7 Rb5
3. Ra5! Rxa5
4. b8=Q+
and, of course, black must find a field for his king!
Alternatives:
4. … Kd4/Kd5/Kf6 5. Qd8+ wins rook.
4. … Ke4/Kf4 5. Qb4+ wins rook.
So I guess:
4. … Ke4 (Kd4 Qb6+ looked worse)
5. Qb4+ Ke3
6. Qxa5
This was the best I found for both sides.
But I’m still not sure how white wins this, even though up with a full queen.
Is it perhaps a draw?
1.Rxc5 Rxc5 2.b7 Rb5 3.Ra5 +/-
1. Rxc5 Rxc5
2. b7 Rb5
3. Ra5 Rxa5
4. b8Q+ Kf6
5. Qd8+ Kany
6. Qxd3
4. … Kany4
5. Qb4+ Kany
6. Qxa5
greets, jan
This was posted a couple of months back.
1.Rxc5! Rxc5
2.b7 Rb5
3.Ra5! Rxa5
4.b8=Q and white is winning.
