Karpov vs Kasaparov was a great modern day battle and from what wolvie posted Kasparov after hundreds of games is only +2 so Karpov is definately his equal!

Karpov was not playing actively anymore or did not get a chance to play a lot against Kasparov when Kasparov achieved his peak near-superhuman strength of 2850!
Karpov is surely my most favorite ex-world champion but Kasparov would have increased their head-to-head tally if they played more. Besides, Karpov’s peak rating ever was 2780.
