I hope he’ll break 2800!
Ivanchuk has been scorching-hot this year. If he keeps it up, he’ll break 2800, take over the #1 spot, and win the 2007 Chess Oscar.
What a shame that he won’t be slugging it out with the others in Mexico City.
Ivanchuk appears to be close to his best! He overtook Karpov briefly 1n 1991 and now Kasparov and Karpov are gone why can’t he become world number one finally?
Ivanchuk couldn’t get more than a couple of points for scoring 7-2 against this crowd.
No, he should get 9.7 points, rounded up to 10, to make 2772.
Of course that still leaves him 20 points behind Anand, so one shouldn’t assume from the wording of the headline that he’s closing in on #1. But he may have the #2 spot.
He seems to always get left behind. He was left out of San Luis also.
Actually, I think that he was already gaining 14 points from before this event, so that he would make 2786 after this one, so he really is closing in on number one. Only a few points behind Anand.
