Ivanchuk has been on a roll lately. Today, he lost because he pushed too hard.

I read an interesting article about ivanchuk. it talked about anand saying ivanchuk is the strangest guy on the chess circuit and that the players say hes from planet chucky. it goes on to say he spends alot of his time at the board staring into space and not even looking at the board. apparently during one much in the 80’s hed make a move then run down the hall do some sprints then come back to make another move. lmao.
Susan, when you make a remark like “Ivanchuk defeats self”, don’t you think you should say why for the sake of those who don’t have a clue about what you mean?
I agree that he was over-confidant. He can’t expect to roll over someone of Radjabov’s strength the way he has with other players.
I got no idea, why 38…dxe5 is better than Bxe5, which I would have played without hesitation. Can anyone help me out here?
Marco, 38…Bxe5 looks good to me too.
It is possible that the game moves were not relayed correctly. There were problems with that for a number of games during the event. For example, the moves being relayed for a game of Magnus Carlsen from the official site to ICC were so obviously ridiculous that ICC aborted the relay. There may have been problems with some of the DGT boards.
On move 24 instead of a3 why not g4 instead?
Anonymous Oct. 10, 9:16 AM here again. It turns out there WAS a relay error. The correct move sequence was 38 Nxc5 (not Nxe5) dxc5 39 Rxc5, which is clearly more reasonable. According to notes I saw, White was doing well after that until Qxe5?, which gave away the game at once.
