It would be great to play Kasparov again: Anand

Kolkata: World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand would love to have another match with former champion Garry Kasparov if the Russian legend decides to come out of retirement.
Arriving at the city late Tuesday night, Anand interacted with the media after felicitating the NIIT MCA East Zone title winners. “I would welcome it, if Kasparov changes his mind about retirement. We can have a great match then. We did not have an opportunity to play after 1995 and that is a real pity,” Anand said when asked if he was keen on playing Kasparov.

Hehe… Anand is becoming a business man at last. Very well does he know that a match with Kasparov is the best way to turn the title into money. Or at least the most money possible.
But of course it would be great to see such a match and probably a boost for chess again.
What standard would the K-Dawg be if he came back now? Mind you, look at the other K-Dawg (Kamsky, that is)…
If fischer could take 20 years off and come back at age 49 at 2650 strength, then Kasparov should be favored against Anand after only 3 years off at age 42. Have you read his series, My Great Predecessors? The guy knows everything about chess, is as quick as a computer, and has a stare that melts ice. Give him 4 months to train, and Anand would be toast.
Er, he will be 45 on April 13, 2008
I’ve read some of Kasparov’s work, and have no doubt that he would still be insanely strong. I just wondered if he had kept up with such things as opening play since during his retirement.
Fischer came back after 20 years at 2650 strength!
Pete Sampras came back after 5 years and took one match (two straight sets!) from World No. 1 Roger Federer!
Why can’t Kasparov do even better against Anand, after only 3 years?
Fischer never came back. Kasparov says in his book he would have been struggling badly agains any young player with 2600 rating in 1992. that’s why Fischer didnt play after the second match with Spassky – he realized the “comeback” would never come true
GK has a good chance to come back and beat Anand or even Kramnik right now. if Raffael on playchess zone is GK, he is in reasonable form, plus he does lots of analysis for his books
Kasparov for President of FIDE!
Actually, they DID have an opportunity to play after 1995. Anand just turned it down.

Actually, it was more like 2620.

Maybe because Kasparov was only 2812 when he retired. You can’t lose very much of that and still be better than Anand.
Anand played a few matches vs. Kasparov, and lost convincingly in all of them. Enough said.
