. . . rc8+ Ke7 .Bc5+ Kf6 .RH8 (and black drops the knight?)
rc8+ Ke7 Bc5+ Kf6 Rh8 Kg6 h5 and black loses the knight.
At first glance this should not be equality. The black knight is in a terrible spot. Even if it makes its one move that does not lose it, it still is still terribly constricted. White must be better.

rc8 ke7
bc5 kf6
rh8 rc7
rh7 rc8
h5 seems forced, then maybe g6
and i worry for the rook
I think the best move would be
1) Rc8+ Ke7
2) e5
Perhaps threatening Bc5+
I prefer : 1.Rc8+ Ke7 2.Rh8 Nf6 (2…Nf8 3.Bc5+)3.e5 and if knight moves then Bc5+ wins the rook.
“rc8 ke7

This looks like good variation for white, since 5…g6 6.Be3 looking to h6 is winning…
1. Rc8+ Ke7 2. Rh8 Nf6 3. Bc5+ wins the rook. Or 1. Rc8+ Ke7 2. Rh8 Kf6 3. Rxh7 Rd8 (trapping the rook) 4. Bxh6 gxh6 5. Rxh6+ and White has won two pawns.
1. Rc8+ Ke7 2. Rh8 Kf6 3. e5+ Kg6 4. h5+ Kxh5 5. Rxh7 Kg6 6. Rh8 and White has won the knight and escapes from the trap.

once the rook takes on h7, back the black rook up and the white rook is a prisoner forever. black may not be able to win it, but it will never escape.
I’m by no means a professional and still I spotted this (knight capture starting with Rc8+) almost immediately. Must be an easy puzzle.
“once the rook takes on h7, back the black rook up and the white rook is a prisoner forever.”
I don’t think so! If black plays Kxh5 after h5+, black cannot block the 8th and protect the g7 pawn at the same time. If black played Kf6 instead, e5+ will force the black king to leave the 6th entirely.
