GM Morozevich has captured the Biel Tournament with 1 round to spare. He scored 7-0 against 4 players with an average rating of 2660!! One thing you can’t say is he is boring. I am truly impressed with his performance! Incredible!
Round 9 Results:
Morozevich – Pelletier 1-0
Bruzon – Radjabov 1/2
Volotikin – Carlsen 1-0
The only blemish so far is his two losses to Magnus Carlsen.
Standings after 9 Rounds:
1. GM Alexander Morozevich (Russia 2731) 7.0
2. GM Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan 2728) 5.5
3. GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway 2675) 5.0
4. GM Andrei Volokitin (Ukraine 2662) 4.0
5. GM Yannick Pelletier (Switzerland 2583) 3.0
6. GM Lazaro Bruzon (Cuba 2667) 2.5
You have to wonder whether he will take a quiet draw with Black against Radjabov tomorrow, or go all out. 🙂 And will Radjabov even want to try to win, since he would still finish second.
An organizer’s dream!
No draw. I really think Moro will fight till the end.
Moro looked terrific today.
With c4 i thought he was playing on the wrong side of the board and
then b4 made me think there was a problem with the transmission!
I’ve always liked Morozevich. He’s a chess left-hander, and I learn new things from his style all the time.
east or west…moro is great!!!
I think it was after Moro played c4 or b4 against Pelletier – when everybody expected a kingside attack – that Seirawan was reminded of a saying about Velimirovic: he has “too much talent.”
You have to admire the way he succeeds by mixing things up.
Moro is amazingly talented, and very sexy! Its quite a combo:).
The only word that one can use to fittingly describe Morozevich is: “Morozevich!”
indeed! at least i’ve found the least common denominator:
“MAGNUSBURGER”
:))
