Iranian GM Morteza Mahjoob, 29, is planning to smash all previous records with a simultaneous exhibition against 500 players. He started physical training last month, bearing in mind that he is going to have to walk about 40 kilometers and stay awake for 24 hours during the record-breaking event.

The name of the record attempt is Rokh-dar-rokh 500 (rook vs rook 500). It will take place in Tehran, at the Enghelab Sport Complex, on Thursday 13 August 2009, under the supervision of the Iranian Chess Federation and FIDE. Iranian TV will cover the event. 200 professional chess players, 280 chess enthusiasts, and 20 cinema actors and sportsmen will present in at the sport complex at 9 a.m. to try to win their games agains GM Mahjoob. He will need to win 80 percent of the games to achieve a new Guinness world record. Guinness will carefully analyse all the details of the record attempt.
