International Chess Tournament in Moscow Features Top Mongolian

Mongolian Chess Master B.Mongontuul will compete in the Moscow Open 2010 international Chess Festival, which will be held in Moscow, Russia from January 30 to February 7, 2010.

On January 26, 2010, a press conference was organized for the chess tournament. At the conference, the MCF (Moscow Chess Federation) president Vasily Zhukov said that the Moscow Open is the major tournament for the Moscow Chess Federation.

“And despite a difficult economic situation in the country, we managed to keep the prize fund and budget of the festival at the same level as last year”, added Mr. Zhukov.

According to Zhukov, the festival will see approximately 1226 chess players from 30 countries including around 100 Grandmasters, Zhukov said.

“Chess is the main social sport –and a powerful source of creation and growth of the intellectual potential of the nation”, Zhukov added. Winners of the tournament will be awarded five million roubles and will be able to take part in the World Chess Championship.

Currently, female Chess masters, Zhao Xue (of China), Elizabeth Paehtz (of Germany), both with 2504, Valentina Gunina (of Russia) with 2448,

Salome Melia (of Georgia) with 2436 and B.Mongontuul (B. Mongontuul) with 2427, are the leaders on the World’s ranking list.
