Russia, USA, and China confirm participation in Intercontinental chess
Intercontinental school teams chess in Skokie, IL

The Intercontinental school teams chess championship is going to take place March 26 – 28, 2010. Players will be divided in U18, U16, U14, U12, U10 sections. Each National Federation may enter an unlimited number of School Teams. Team composition shall consist of four students from the same school and in the same age group; any combination of boys and girls is allowed.

Up to now teams from Russia, USA, and China have entered the event. Russia will be represented by Poikovskij, China by Renmin University School, while USA will have a larger number of representatives.

The tournament will be played according to the Swiss System in 7 rounds. National ratings will be taken into consideration for the parings. Rate of play will be according to FIDE regulations. The time limit will be 90 minutes for all game with a 5 second delay per move starting from move 1. Team-winners of the First, Second and Third places in each age category and the members of the teams will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, Diplomas and Special Trophies. Team trophies will be awarded also teams finished on 4 – 20 places on each age category.

Parallel program includes simultaneous exhibition with US Champions GMs Yury Shulman and Alex Onischuk. In the honorary committee are World Champion Anatoly Karpov and Uvencio Blanco, Chairman FIDE Committee “Chess in Schools”.
