Dibrugarh, April 26: All the top-ranked players made a solid start at the Sunday League Open prizemoney chess tournament which got under way at OIL Higher Secondary School, Duliajan, today.

At the end of the two rounds played today, Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE)-ranked players Rintu Phukon, Imtiaz Islam Bora and Rishidip Bordoloi were at the top of the table in the points tally with 2 points each.

Pranajal Deka, Prasanta Singh and Abhinash Dutta also collected 2 points each, winning their opening two games.

Among the players who were lagging behind 1 point each are Bainapalli Akash, Arindam Dutta, Debasish Parasar and Rituraj Borgohain.
The tournament is being organised by the Rotary Club of Duliajan.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Rotary Club of Duliajan president Navadeep Dutta. Gulap Sarma, the treasurer of the club was also present along with five times state chess champion Utpal Baruah.

Altogether 40 players from Duliajan, Naharkatia, Chabua, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh are taking part in the tournament.
