I really don’t see too many viable lines for Black with the exposure of his King and the open g file. The fastest win for White appears to be:
1. Re5 (blocking the pin of the Q and threatening Rxh5 mate)
….. fxe5 (or 1…Rxe5)
2 Qg6+ Kh8
3. Qh6+ Rh7
4. Qxf6 Rg7
5. Qxg7 mate
or
1 … Qxe5
2 dxe5 with too many threats down the g file
Thanks
Tom D
Hi,
I thought of another variation. This one doesn’t lead to mate. But it puts white in a strong position.
1. Rxe8 Qxg3+
2. Rxg3
and white has 2 rooks for black’s one rook. Other reply for black leads to checkmate
1. Rxe8 Qxe8
2. Qg6+ Kh8
3. Qh6+ Rh7
4. Qxf6+ Rg7
5. Qxg7#
P. Anandh.
1.Re5 Kh8 (other moves result in the mate pointed out by Tom D)
2.Rxh5+ Rh7
3.Rxh7+ Kxh7
4.f4! (blocking the pin of the queen once more!) and black has only senseless, mate prolonging moves like 4. … Qxf4
5.Qxf4 e.g. Re5
6.Qh4+ Rh5
7.Qxh5#
