I think that 2. Rxd7 is even stronger, since the threat Qg7# is renewed. If 2. … Rxd7, then 3. Rxe8+ Kh7 4. Qh8#, and if 2. … Qxd7, then 3. Rxd8+ Qxd8 4. Qxd8+ and 5. Qxd2.
After 1.-,R6d7 white can simply play 2. Rxd7.
I think that is easier than the posted variation with 2. Rxd8.
But 2. Rd8 seems to be winning, too, in the first moments I thought, after 4. Rxd7 black could counterplay with d1Q to equalize the material but I think after that move white can mate
the black king.
Is there any field for the black king after Qe6+ to prevent being mated after d1Q?

black has no options. white Rc7 is gunning for the Qg7 mate. black helplessly trys to defend g7 and gets punished. all the options lead to mate or white up a queen.
