Anand talks so fast! I had to rehear him talk for about six times just to understand the sentences or words he was uttering. A script will be handy here. Don’t understand me wrong: The poor quality of Anand’s rhetorics and Gelfand is a disaster- he talks so no representably – is understandable due to the extreme competitive situation they are founded in. It is like having an interview with a basketball player after one of the games in the world series but its not because a chess player is very lonely on the chessboard, he is the whole team and the coach too most of the times.
Couldn’t understand Anand’s Indian accent english. So sad, maybe there will be a transcript someday. After I listened twice and I gave up.
Egalon, had trouble understanding you, too!?
You don’t really expect a super gm to speak english as a super gm too? When to learn to talk properly? No free time, has to memorize opening theory and practice sports, not “useless” bla-bla. Kasparov speaks the best english, Karpov worse than Anand.
I wonder why Susan found it helpful to ask essentially the same question three times.
Anand speaks English better than most of the Europeans.
Hey guys start learning to understand the Indian accent as it is going to be the future way of talking in the world….its Indians everywhere.
Great job you are doing there Susan?
Best wishes
Abie
Lets see Americans butcher English yet their accent is fine, Aussies are hard to understand but no one complains about their accent.
LO and behold Anand speaks fast yet fluently not making glaring grammatical mistakes like many mothertongue speakers do and doofuses complain he cant speak properly.
Make an effort to understand others as others make efforts to understand you.
I found it hard to follow Anand’s response delivered so fast. And I’m Indian…guys, don’t go this route , it’s ok to make a point. I don’t think he answered the question however, how does “e4, g6.. ” get into a response for pressure?
btw, Anand, am proud of you
What’s problem? Why are people going on about Anand’s accent?
Easier than a typical american accent!
Thank you Sriram.. And Anand is a great man.. If I were an Indian today .. waw I would blast happiness. But I have respect for Anand and I appreciate him without being an indian.. it does not relate.
I am talking about promoting chess and these Super GMs Anand and Gelfand are not doing a great job at it. These press conferences are an opportunity to talk with the fans to do something for the chess community to say something nice. They seem to me so uncomfortable that I think one might find a better idea than these press conferences right after the games. It is so unnatural looking. That’s my personal impression and I hope I clarified myself. I repeat: I have the utmost respect for all contestants especially Anand and Gelfand . It is much more than respect. These guys are my heroes. I want the best for them and the best for chess.
All of us want to understand what our champions are saying, be it Anand or Kramnik, American or Aussie. So making a point about delivery is appropriate and constructive. What I don’t understand, anonymous, is why peole are talking sbout American, Aussie Vs Indian ..when they don’t even know the nationalities of the bloggers (except mine 🙂 )
hope this blog thread gets back to Chess and Communication
