HARLINGEN, TEXAS — A group of Rio Grande Valley students are headed to Nashville, Tenn., for the National Chess Tournament.

The students at Milam Elementary School in Harlingen were introduced to chess at the beginning of the school year.

After months of hard work, the students have made it to the Super Nationals Chess Tournament.

“Their spring break was spent practicing, after schools, saturdays at times, just a lot of dedication,” said Jessie Saldivar, the chess coach at Milam Elementary.

The Milam students are the only elementary students competing from Harlingen.

However, there are others from across the valley going as well.

Action 4 News wishes all the teams the best of luck.
