HAVANA, Jun. 19, 2010 (Xinhua News Agency) — The former world chess champion, Russian GM Anatoliy Karpov, started a four-day visit here as special guest to the ongoing tournament Memorial Capablanca, said the Cuba’s Sports and Recreation Institute (INDER) on Saturday.
On this his third visit to Cuba, Karpov is scheduled to hold talks with Jose Ramon Fernandez, vice president of the Council of Ministers and president of Cuba’s Olympic Committee.
Also Karpov will exchange experiences with the players attending to the Capablanca Tournament, to close on Sunday, said the local institution.
Karpov, 59, has voiced repeatedly his admiration for Cuban Jose Raul Capablanca, the only Latin American chess player to hold the World Chess crown for seven years (1921-1927).
Karpov, who learnt to play chess at the age of four, was the world champion from 1975 to 1985 and from 1993 to 1998. Now he runs for the presidency of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), chaired by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, also visiting Cuba.

I don’t think Karpov will have a chance in this election.
Isn’t Karpov the only legitmate candidate in the election?
If so, are his chance not excellent?!
Just wait till the Kremlin sends the notice stating that Kirsan is being officially backed by them and Karpov is NOT.
All of the communist countries will quickly turn their back on Karpov then!
