It was a bad and good day for Grischuk. The bad part is he was fined $1,000 by FIDE for showing up 12 minutes late for round 9. He then asked one of the organizers: “Am I late?”
The good part is he won against Gelfand who suffered his first defeat in this World Championship.

Do you know what the appearance fees are for the players? I don’t know, but surely this is more of an appear on time deduction. I’m sure he wasn’t too pleased though.
