1. Rxg7+ Kxg7
2. Re7+ Kg8
3. Bf7+ Kh8
4. Qxf6+ Qxf6
5. Bxf6+
not sure how to proceed afterwards. or maybe i got it wrong?
-rj
You are really close. Several more moves.
Yes, rj certainly got it right. To follow up on his sequence:
5. … Kg8
6. Rg7+ Kh8
and white has set up a windmill to win the game comfortably, first taking the pawns along the seventh rank and finally moving his rook to d7 to gain the rook on d8.
Very nice combination.
1. Rxg7+ Kxg7 2. Re7+ Kg8 (2…Kh8 3. Qxf6+ Qxf6 4. Bxf6+ transposes) 3. Bf7+ Kh8 (3…Kg7 4. Be6+ mates.) 4. Qxf6+ Qxf6 5. Bxf6+ Kh7 6. Bh5+ Kg8 7. Rg7+ Kh8 9. Rxb7+ Kg8 10. Rg7+ Kh8, now there are two ways to win.
A) 11. Rxa7+ Kg8 12. Rg7+ Kh8 13. Rd7+ Kg8 14. Rxd8 Rxd8 15. Bxd8, and W has four extra pawns.
B) 11. Bd4, threatening 12. Re7+ Kg8 13. Bf7+ Kg7 14. Be6+ Kg6 15. Rg7+ Kh5 16. g4 Bxg4+ 17. Bxg4 Kh4 18. Bf6#), so B has to play 11… Nd7 to give the K enough room, and now 12. Rxd7+ Kg8 13. Rg7+ Kf8 14. Rh7, with threat 15. Bf6, winning more material with the mate threat.
