The Governor Sir Robert Fulton visited the Gibtelecom International Chess Festival with invited guests. He walked around the tournament hall and managed to see many famous grandmasters from numerous countries, including current Russian champion Peter Svidler playing former world women’s champion Antoeneta Stefanova from Bulgaria and the leader Slovenian Grandmaster Alexander Beliavsky playing Azerbaijani star Vugar Gashimov.

The Governor met Grandmaster Simen Agdestein from Norway who was once the youngest Grandmaster in the world and Stewart Reuben, well known chess organizer from the UK. It was interesting to see the workings behind the scenes at the prestigious chess tournament by the various members of the administrative team.

His Excellency was shown around the facilities of the event including the website management that includes the live broadcasting of over 60 games online. Afterwards they went to the commentary room where current British Champion Stuart Conquest was providing live commentary to the online audience. A highlight of the festival is the continued analysis that can viewed by chessplayers around the world. The tournament continues until the 5th of February.
