Ukraine’s women national chess team has won the world team championship in Astana, Kazakhstan, reads a statement at the Ukrainian Chess Federation website. 

The Ukrainian women drew with the Russian national team 2-2 in the last round’s match, having secured them victory in the tournament ahead of time. 

On the national team are: Kateryna Lahno, Anna Ushenina, Mariya Muzychuk, Natalia Zhukova and Inna Gaponenko. 

The team’s head coach is Mykhailo Brodskyi, the delegation leader is Leonid Tymoshenko. 

The Ukrainian women have won the Chess World Team Championship for the first time ever. 

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Anna Ushenina in December 2012 won the Women’s Chess World Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. 

In September 2012, Ukraine’s men and women national chess teams won bronze medals at the World Chess Olympics in Istanbul, Turkey. 

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a concept of national-level target-oriented social program for chess development entitled The Nation’s Intellect for the years 2013-2020.
