Montana Chess Association hosts 80th chess tournament

GREAT FALLS –
Kings, Queens, and Knights came out in Great Falls to play some chess when the Montana Chess Association held their 80th chess tournament on Saturday.
Chess Grand Master Alex Yermolinsky came to play in this year’s event.
“Chess is a mental game. It’s one of the few areas where you have to be one on one with an opponent and you can do something, I would say the old fashioned way,” Yermolinsky said.
Forty-two chess players of all different skill levels played three chess matches Saturday.
Each player was allowed two hours of play time per game.
Great Falls Scholastic students also attended the event.
Eighten kids from Billings, Lewistown, and Missoula also came to learn and develop their chess playing skills.
Chess player Mark Doore says that this is a great way to learn new moves.
“If you get stuck in certain positions and stuff it will help you figure out with to do in that position if it ever raises again. Or, what you could have done better or what not to do. And then just basic practice,” Doore said
