Surya, who was in the lead with Nigel Short and Lu Shanglei, opened up the kingside in a Sicilian defence and his two bishops ensured an attack which fetched him a pawn and it was a matter of time as the Indian GM finished the winner with 7,5/9 points.

On the top board, Short and Shanglei had a quiet affair after opting for a Catalan set up. With neither of them getting a breakthrough, the duo agreed for a truce on the 41st move.

Short, Shanglei, Deep Sengupta and Sandipan Chanda finished tied second with 7,0 points each.
