I was conducting a chess workshop earlier this morning for teachers from various school districts in Texas who came to Region 17 for an educational conference. The key to chess success at grassroots level is to educate teachers about the importance of chess in education and to help them succeed with kids at their schools.

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Actually, I whish there where more chess tutoring or instructors for older players. For example, I live in the NY-NJ area, and after many years I have finally been able to arrange my work schedule so I can dedicate more time at playing chess. Since I haven’t played in so many years, I tried to get up to date by buying the latest books, software and chess engines available. Unfortunately….I got overwhelmed with so much learning material. My next step was to try to get a private instructor or tutor (for an hourly fee of course) so maybe I could get a training program or shcedule to help me reach my goals. And here was my problem…not even paying by the hour was I able to find someone that would be willing to teach senior players. Basically the respose is: I only teach students under the age of 18. For some reason the target for promoting chess is kids only. In my opinion, we should be targeting to all ages. Just my 2 cents.
I don’t understand your complaint. There’re plenty of chess teachers you can hire from the NY/NJ area. They don’t have so many in Texas or smaller towns. Since the USCF is doing nearly nothing to help promote chess, what GM Polgar does is very important.
What are the chances we’ll see Susan have a workshop like this in Kentucky? Chessvine.com would definitely support that effort.
Try Dan Heisman. He not only teaches seniors but also offers them a discounted rate.

Workshops are not official. Get real training, boys.

Where did Dan get the certification to teach others?
He got it when bying the 10,000th BigMac at McDonalds.

Damn, I must admit that this is funny stuff.
Dan is a NM….once you get a Master title…you can teach. Actually, there are a bunch of folks in craiglists that offer chess lessons, but once you check their rating most of them are under 1800.
