1. Bxe5 Qxe5 (or Nxe5, or Qb6)
2. Qd8, and mates soon.
1. Be5: looks mighty strong.
1. Bxe5 (a) NxB
2. Qd8+ (a1) Qxd8
3. Rxd8+ Re8
4. Rxe8+ Bf8
5. Rxf8# (either rook will do)
1. … (b) QxB leads to mate in one less move.
1. … (c) Qd6
2. Bxd6 Bxd6
3. Qxd6 Re8
4. Qxc8 Black staves off mate for a while but goes down Q and N.
Mark
Bxe5
Remember seeing this too:
1.Bxe5 Qd7 (taking the Bishop with Queen or Knight loses to 2. Qd8+, N or Qxd8 3. Rxd8, Re8 4. Rxe8#)
2.Rxb8 Nxb8
and White has definite advantage
1. Bxe5! Nxe5 2.Qd8+ 1-0[1..Qxe5 2.Qd8+ Nxd8 3.Rxd8 wins]
1. Be5
If Ne5 or Qe5, mate on d8. If Qd7, white wins the exchange at b8.
1Be5 2Qd8 wins
1.Bxe5
Black can’t play Nxe5 due to 2.Qd8+ Qxd8 3.Rxd8+ Re8 4.Rxe8+ Bf8 5.Rexf8# or Rfxf8#
1… Qd7 2.Bxb8 Qxd2 3.Rxd2 and White is up a Rook.
Black can’t play Nxb8 due to 4.Rd8+ Re8 4.Rxe8+ Bf8 5.Rexf8# or Rfxf8#
Not sure what Black’s best move is
1.Bxe5
1. Bxe5 wins the queen. if it stops guarding d8, then 2. Qd8+ is a killer. greets, jan
1. Bxe5!
The bishop cannot be taken because of Qd8+ and mate, so White wins at least an exchange and a pawn.
Bxe5 Qd7 2. Qf4 Qe8 3. Bxb8 e5 4. Bxe5 Nxe5
White has piece advantage and an easy win.
Bxe5 Qd7 2. Qf4 Qe8 3. Bxb8 e5 4. Bxe5 Nxe5
White has piece advantage and an easy win
Hi Susan Polgar,
Well,to my remembrance this is the third time posted puzzle.
To my surprise, all these three times, almost all except me – Suggested that “B*e5” leads to shortest mating combination.
Which will not happen.
======
1.I had said that “B*e5” will not lead to shortest mating combination,in the first posting of this puzzle with an example.
2.At Second time posting, I just reflected the opinion of others, with the hope that some may express their difference, since I had given that difference of opinion with the example,in the 1st time posting of this puzzle but no nobody did that.
3.Now in this time – still strongly others believe that “B*e5” leads to inevitable mating.
========
So now,let me give a hint – may be that make others to think in a different line to solve this puzzle.
Hint: If Black’s response to White’s “B*e5” is “Qd7” – What will happen ? Will the set of moves given by others will work ?.
Hope, those posted solution here for this puzzle will definitely find a new working solution,to this puzzle after reading the hint.
