Former Webster University chess grandmaster wins Sinquefield Cup

ST. LOUIS • A former member of the Webster University championship chess team won the elite Sinquefield Cup this week in St. Louis.
Grandmaster Wesley So, 23, a native of the Philippines who now lives in suburban Minneapolis, took home $75,000 for winning the event hosted by the Chess Club and Scholastic Center in the Central West End.
The Sinquefield Cup is one of four tournaments in the international Grand Chess Tour. The fourth and last will take place in London in December.
So, who is the current leader on the tour, was a member of powerhouse Webster teams that won national championships in 2013 and 2014.
