It took two hours for native Texan WCM Claudia Munoz to defeat Prazares Moreira Rita de Cassia from Brazil, although the Brazilian did not have a FIDE rating she was rated 1782 in her homeland. Claudia played black when due to a combination she was up one piece that contributed to her win. Claudia quickly contacted both of her coaches back in Mexico of the outcome. One must remember that Claudia although a native Texan and an American citizen by birth, she currently resides in Acuna, Mexico literally living infront of the Rio Grande where her parents own a support business catering to the American Maquiladora Industry. Claudia reported that the Xiang sisters as well as Sylvia Yang and Simone Liao also won their first round games. The picture above of Hotel Monaco where the event is being held.
