1.Re8+ Kxe8 2.Qg8+ Ke7 3.Bh4+ Kd7 4.Qxf7# looks good, though I’m weary. If 2…Kd7, then 3.Qxf7+ Kd8 4.Bh4+ leads to mate next move. I believe. I’m happy to finally post my first comment on the fine lady’s blog!
danh is correct except that after 3. Qxf7+ Kd8, 4. Bh4+ does not lead to immediate mate but wins the Black queen for the cost of a rook. 4… Qe7 (stops the mate) 5. Qf8+ Kc7 (5… Kd7 6. Qe7#) 6. Qe7+ Kb8 (or Kb6) 7. Qd6+ followed by a serious buffet consumption by the White Queen. 🙂
but it is a mate …
1.Rxe8+ Kxe8
2.Qg8+ Kd7 (2…Ke7 according to danh)
3.Qxf7+ Kd8
4.Qg8+ Kd7 (4…Ke7 5.Bh4+ Kd7 6.Qe6#)
5.Bh4 with mate next move
(5…Qd8 6.Qxd8#;5…any other queen move 6.Qf7#; 5…any other move 6.Qe6#)
