More on FIDE Grand Prix

Vladimir Kramnik and Veselin Topalov are two of the five players who refused to take part in the FIDE Grand Prix. The Russian newspaper Kommersant published comments by Kramnik’s manager Karsten Hensel and Topalov’s manager Silvio Danailov. Hensel, in particular, explained that the prize fund of the GP tournament is significantly lower than the prize fund of the elite events such us Linares. In his opinion, FIDE should have found a larger sponsorship to ensure higher fees for the players. Danailov’s opinion is similar – he stated that their refusal to participate was based on the financial conditions.
