I do believe that spirit and opportunity are both still transmitting from mars, way longer than they were programmed and expected to.
I would say it is a picture from the surface of mars.

It is the Mars rover. This is an actual picture of Mars 🙂

The image is a very early shot taken from the Mars rover Spirit, well before it made its long trek to, and climb of, the “Columbia Hills”.
News, pictures, and other data from the still functioning Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity can be had from the official site of the mission:

There are literally tens of thousands of images to peruse, some extraordinary. Check up the latest “Raw Images” from Opportunity, which is now sitting on the edge of a Kilometer sized crater.
