With the threat on the queen, the first move has to be either a queen move or one of the two knight checks. I don’t see a good square for the queen since she must keep guard on g7, so:
1. …..Nh3
2. Kg2 Rc2!
3. Nc2
Or [3.Kh1 Qf3 4.Ng2 Qg2#], and, of course, 3.Kf1 is mate after Qe2. And now that white’s knight is no longer guarding the king
3. …..Nf4!
And white won’t be able to evade the mate since black will check on the next move from either e2 and/or d1, and will deliver mate from g2.
Back at move 2, white can do no better with with any alternative:
1. …..Nh3
2. Kf1 Qf3
3. Ke1 Qe3 and will mate with either Nf2 or Qf2 depending on white’s reply.
Or
1. …..Nh3
2. Kh1 Qf3
3. Ng2 Qf1#
1. Nh3+
2. Kh1/f1 Qf3+
2. Kg2 Rxc2+
3. Nxc2 Nf4+
4. Kf2 Qe2+
4. Kf1/g1/h1 Qd1+
1. Nh3+ Kf1
2. Qf3+ Ke1
3. Qxe3+ Kd1
4. Nf2#
Easy one…
1. … Nh3+
If,
2. Kh1 Qf3+
3. Kg1 Qg2+ checkmate
If,
2. Kf1 Qf3+
3. Ke1 Qxe3+
4. Kd1 Nf2+ checkmate
If,
2. Kg2 Rxc2+
3. Nxc2 Nf4+
4. Kg1 Qd1+
5. Kf2 Qe2+
6. Kg1 Qg2+ checkmate
(Some minor lines missed, but there is a checkmate on all of them!)
1. … Nh3+
2. Kg2 Rxc2+
3. Nxc2 Nf4+
4. Kf2 Qe2+
5. Kg1 Qg2#
Other king-moves for white also lose.
Nh3! and all is done. If Kh1, mate in one. If Kf1 then Qf3 and mate in 1, 2 or 3. If Kg2 then Rxc2, the N has to capture the rook or mate will follow quickly. After Nxc2 black plays his N back to f4 restoring the problem but this time without the white N on e3, and with check. Now mate will follow anyways. So, time to resign for white.
1. Rc3
No idea.
1…Nh3+
2.Kg2 (other moves allow black Q to come right into play), Rxc2+
3. Nxc2, Nf4+ and mating shortly
1. ……Nh3+
If. 2. Kf1…Qf3+ 3. Ke1..Qxe3+ 4. Kd1..Nf2#
On 4. Kf1.. Qf2#
If. 2. Kh1..Qf3+ 3. Ng2.. Qf1#
If 2. Kg2.. Rxc2+ 3. Nxc2.. Nf4+ 4. Kh1. Qf3+ followed by Qg2#
On 4. Kg1…Qd1+ 5. Kf2..Qe2+ 6. Kg1 Qg2#
On 4. Kf1 (or Kf2) Qe2+ 5. Kg1 Qg2#
Harry
Nh3, Kg2 (otherwise Qf3 wins) Rxc2+ Nxc2 and the night goes back to f4! nice deviation of the black night
