With the successful application for the Chess Olympiad 2008 at the FIDE world congress in October 2004 the city of Dresden started preparations for this great sporting events right away. On April 7, 2005 the city council unanimously agreed on the organizational and financial framework that was worked out. On April 21, 2005 First Mayor of Dresden, Ingolf Roßberg, and the president of the German Chess Federation, Alfred Schlya, were happy to open up the Organizing Office of the Chess Olympiad 2008. Three weeks later Dresden’s mayor officially appointed the members of the Organizing Committee (OC) for the preparation and the realization of the Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008.
