Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
That’s impressive.
Eljanov is surging, but he has no possibility of joining Aronian in the WC qualification system. At the moment Radjabov is the player to beat, but he is at an unimpressive position, (and tied overall with Grishuk) he should try to improve on his Baku result. Gashimov it looks has the best chance of catching him, he can improve on his Sochi result. Theoretically Wang Yue could make it but he cannot lose here to either of the above. Leko’s chances are worse than his. Actually Jakovenko has a reasonable chance, but he must probably win here to catch Radjabov, I am not sure second is enough.
In short – you don’t know much.
Well, no, I only speculate looking at the situation, with three rounds to go at the last Grand Prix! There is plenty of ways it could still go. I think the ones I mentioned have the best chances, but as ever, they should do well in the last three rounds of this tournament. Someone suddenly winning three games in a row would of course change the situation somewhat. A win in a tourney gets you 180 point which is fairly much, a shared result less, but there are a few people who cannot catch Radjabov, and then some who are not like to because they would have to win this tournament while all the rest of the contenders to badly, with three rounds to go.
Now Radjabov has won today, which makes it harder for the others, at the moment he is increasing his total points. And Gashimov has lost.
