Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Considering that Wesley So will not participate in the Tromso Norway Chess Olympiad for obvious reasons, his two remaining tournaments are the Edmonton International (9 rounds) then followed by the ACP Golden Classic in Italy (5 rounds). What happens next? From the looks of it, Wesley So tournament schedules after the two tournament is as blurred as a murky/muddy waters. Any more schedules after this Susan? Or Wesley will be sitting out the entire year after that two tournaments. For sure if there is/are another tournament for Wesley So, he should have already received an invite ahead of time. Nothing wrong if it will be annouce so that his fans can have something to look forward too. Thanks & God Bless
His schedule will depend of the decision of the NCFP, and if they consent for him to transfer now, or make him sit for another year. There are events lined up, but everything is up to the NCFP.
Thank you for the info Susan. Guess we have to wait until during or after the Tromso Norway Chess Olympiad. If the NCFP will not consent to transfer, GM Wesley So has no choice but to sit one more year to comply with FIDE 2 year sit out period before transfer in case of non-consent or payment of € 50,000 euros transfer fees to NCFP. Since the last time Wesley So represented the Philippines in FIDE organized event was last 2013 World Cup, if there is no consent or € 50,000 tranfer fee, Wesley So will then be eligible to play for the US Chess Federation only by September 2015. By that time, he would have complied with the FIDE 2 year waiting period. On the other hand, if NCFP will consent the transfer before the Chess Olympiad, it would be possible for Wesley So to either play or served as coach of the US Team in the Tromso Norway Chess Olympiad. However, I doubt it. Even if NCFP will consent, they will most likely do after the Chess Olympiad as sort of “punishment”. By the way, the NCFP is presently staging its National Selection Tournament (Battle of the Grandmasters) here in the Philippines this week where they will be selecting members of the Philippine Team to the Tromso Norway Chess Olympiad.
Sorry but I do not understand the system in the Philippines. How can you have an event to select players now when the deadline was June 1, and the team roster was already submitted? What am I missing? Is there a different rule for NCFP?
I really don’t understand it either. I know for a fact that the deadline was June 1, 2014 I an just not sure if FIDE gave the Philippines a special extension privilege. From the news here in the Philippines, they have already seeded the top 3 as members of the Philippine Team to the Tromso, Norway Chess Olympiad. They are GM Wesley So (#1), GM Catalino Saddora (#2) and GM Oliver Barbosa (#3). The remaining 2 regular and reserved player shall be selected thru the Philippine National Selection Tournament (Battle of Grandmasters) happening now up to end of the week. Since Wesley So decided to change Federation, and two other confirmed GM’s switching Federation (GM’s Oliver Barbosa & Mark Paragua) that would lead the Philippines with only GM Catalino Saddorra as lone member of the chess team to the chess olympiad. Perhaps the NCFP use the ongoing National Selection to fill in the remaining 4 or 5 slots. Prior to Wesley announcement, Philippines still has no team to the olympiad. The selection was supposed to happen last month don’t know why they postpone it.
From the news here in the Philippines it seems that NCFP made it appear that they submitted the names of GM ‘s Wesley So, Catalino Saddora and Oliver Barbosa to FIDE for the Tromso, Norway Chess Olympiad and the remaining members will be submitted later pending the outcome of the Philippine National Selections for the Olympiad happening now. I dont know if NCFP has special exemption for extended deadline given by FIDE or what. What buffles chess fans here is “IS IT POSSIBLE and DOES FIDE REGULATIONS PERMITS IT”? Your guess Susan is as good as mind and I too am totally lost with what the NCFP is doing.
If the NCFP is still currently staging its Philippine National Tournment Selection (Battle of the Grandmasters) to select members of the Philippines Chess Team to the Tromso, Norway Chess Olympiad it goes to follow that the Philippines still has not submitted its team roster to FIDE for the chess olympiad unless FIDE accepts partial submission but even then, the June 1 deadline has past but strange enough, the NCFP is still staging its Philippine Selection Tournament. Though just this month the NCFP seeded outright (without undergoing qualification) GM’s Wesley So, Catalino Saddorra and Oliver Barbosa to the Philippines Team to the Chess Olympiad. But take note the seeding as announced here in media was ONLY made when news about Wesley So transfer of federation exploded in media when his letter was published here in your blog. Quite suspicious though. From the way it appears, NCFP still DID NOT SUBMIT its final roster to FIDE and they will submit their final list only after the ongoing Philippine Selection Tournament is finished. My guess either by the end of this week or early next week the NCFP will submit their final roster (Phil Team to the Chess Olympiad) to FIDE. The ONE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION is this even possible Ms Susan under present FIDE regulation (belated submission) and was there precedence (previous case like this in other federation)? Thanks and God Bless.
Battle of the Grandmasters, National Chess Championship (Men & Women) – Selection for the Tromso, Norway Chess Olympiad = June 19 to 27, 2014 Link: http://www.ncf-phil.org/ncfp-calendar.html (See calendar for June 2014)
What is strange about this Philippines Selection Tournament (Battle of the Grandmasters – National Chess Championship for Men & Women) for the Chess Olympiad is there IS NO NEWS ABOUT IT HAPPENING as Philippine media is not covering it. Come to think about it the schedule is July 19 to 27, 2014 and for 3 days now we dont even hear here in the Philippines as to who are competing, results etc. The tournament is TOTALLY in SILENT MODE! Very odd as this is the first time it happened.
Wesley’s playing career is over. s soon as Pichay and Kasparov win the election, he’s banned for at least 10 years for no endorsement. All chess players must learn this rule. They must listen to their federation’s presidents.
Nice move boxingafficionado of pacland, wesley so hater lol
Nakamura Rules! Bow wesley so and pichay to your master

Nakamura is the best of all times. His better than Kasparov and Wesley So. He is a genius. If Nakamura will run for Fide President he will just win against any opponents because he is the best.
