The Marble Falls High School Chess Team returned in high spirits Monday night from the State Championship of Texas Scholastic Chess at the McAllen Convention Center.

The nine-member team took second place in the junior varsity competition.

Team members are seniors, Camille Sauer, Josh Clark and Nick Lehmann; juniors, J.W. Bryant and Walker Rowsey; and freshmen, Evan Rogers, Jericho Pennington, Tristan Patterson and Chris Ashley.

Competing on Saturday and Sunday were 122 players on 22 teams from all over the state.

“The winners were Edinburg North High School, and they had 20 players on their team,” said Nick Lehmann, MFHS student body president and president of the local team. “They only beat us by two points.”
