The annual Dyfed Chess Congress held at the Fishguard Bay Hotel over the week-end had an International flavour, as amongst the seventy-seven players taking part was English Grandmaster, Stewart Haslinger making his second appearance at this event, and Latvian International Master, Roland Berzinsh. The Latvian I.M was the outright winner of the Open Section with 4 pints.

Stewart was joint runner-up with Andrew Gibbons (Nidum) on 4 points each and the Grading prize in this section was won by J. Waterfield (Monmouth) with 3,5 points.

The Major Section was won outright by B. Keogh (Preston) with 4,5 points, J Arthur (Abergavenny) on 4 points came second, and there was a tie for third place between D. Buttell (White Knights) and D. Williams (Malpas) on 4 points. Grading Prize went to R. Greatorex (Llangollen) on 3,5 points.

The winnerof the Minor Section was K.Cook (Haverfordwest) on 4 points and there was a four way split for 2d place between I. Finlay (Aberystwyth) P. Smith (Pontypool) S. White (Barry) and the promising junior player, fifteen year old Iwan Griffiths (Gwyddbwyll.com) all on 3,5 points. J. Florence (Haverfordwest) won the Grading Prize with 3 points.
