GM Leinier Dominguez Perez won the 2012 edition of the Cuban Chess Championship. Dominguez won against Lazaro Bruzon in the final match with the score 1,5-0,5, taking the full point with white in a 38 mover Ruy Lopez game.

This is the fourth title for Dominguez after his succeses in 2002, 2003, and 2006. It also interrupts the serie of GM Bruzon who won the event in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Third place in the competition was for GM Yuniesky Quesada who finished 1-1 with GM Isam Ortiz, but won the 15 minutes tiebreak rapid game.
