RUPESH KANT WINS RSL 3 LAKL FIRST PRIZE DELHI CHESS

Rupesh Kant (9.5) of Madhya Pradesh won the first “Delhi All India Open Chess Tournament” and walked away with the biggest prize money of Rs. 3 lakhs First Prize and the winners Trohy. In the final round he defeted Veeresh Chaturvedi (8.0 pts.) of UP. In 69 moves.

On the Second Board Vignesh Waven (9.0 pts.) of Delhi shocked the Former Delhi Champion Surrender Kumar (8.0 pts.) to win the second prize of Rs. 1.50 lakhs.

MR Khan, (8.5 pts.) the former National Champion defeated V. Subhashi of Bihar to win the third prize of Rs. 1 lakh. Top 3 winners were also presented the Trophies. Mr. MR Khan is also known for getting the first-ever prize in chess for the country from outside India.

The “Delhi All India Open Chess Tournament” held from 23rd to 29th December, at Sadhu Vaswani Schol for Girls, Shanti Niketan, New Delhi is the first of its kind in the series of tournaments declared and organized by the newly formed Chess Association of India.

The Cash Prizes and Winners’ Trophies were awarded by the Chief Guest J.P.Agarawal, Member of Parliament and Chairman Lok Sabha Housing Committee in an impressive glittering closing ceremony. Also present, on the occasion were Shri Lalit Jain, former Minsiter of States, M.P. and Shri Sajjan Singh Verma, Member of Parliamant another fomer Minsiter of Sports.

Out of the 46 women participants, as Utter Pradesh’s Priya Rtnam was leading, but due to her prize in the open category, Best Women’s prize was awarded to Samita (5.5 pts.) of Bihar . IN the under 16 category, Abhishek Bharti was best declared best with 6 pts. and under 14 category, Haryana’s Vishal Saini got first prize.

At the occasion CIA also declared a New Year Bonanza for the Indian Chess Players by announcing Rs. 1 Crore Prize money chess tournaments in the year 2010.
