1. Rxf5 ef 2. Rxh3 Qg1 3. Rxa3 Qxg5 4. Ra1+ Kf2 5. Nh3+
2. … Qxg5 3. Rh1+ Kf2 4. Nh3+
1…. Rxf5
Yes,
But Qb3+ has got to be better than what he actually played … ef5+
…Rxf5
exf5 – Rxh3
if Qxg5 then Rh1+ Kf2 Nh3+ winning queen
if Qg1 (only other move) Rxa3 threatening Ra1+ winning queen
if Qf2 then Ra1+
if Qh2 Ra1+ – Kf2 – Ra2+ winning queen
I wouldn’t have found if PROF.S.G.BHAT hadn’t told the first move…
Even with a 1900 opponent one can calculate for a couple of moves to reveal
in this simple position some neat chess geometry like from a chess book.
After 1… Rxf5 simple immediate recapturing is indeed trivial. 2. ef5 Rxh3 and now Qeen cannot
find a safe place and is lost.
3. Qe1 Rh1+ lost
3. Qf2 Rh1+ must play Qg1
3. Qxg5 Rh1+ 4. Kf2 Nh3+ Q lost
3. Qg1 seems most stubborn but after simple 3… Rxa3 there is no cure to Ra1+ or Nh3 etc.
More interesting is a Zwischenzug check 1… Rxf5 2. Qb3+! because after some 2… d5 or 2… Kf6
White take R 3. ef5 and there is still some fight. R and N and all pawns should guarantee Black
win but still some details to watch.
A zwischenzug answering the zwischenzug check is the neatest detail:
1… Nxf5 2. Qb3+! c4! attacks Q and after 3. Qxc4+ puts it on the fourth rank, pinning the
e pawn, allowing countercheck and hence saving Rf5, : 3… Ne6+! 4. Kg2 Re5 and black
rooks are safe, next move is Rhxe4 and the deadly battery wins easily. White can still take
some desperate trip attacking black K but it will not last long. 5. Qc8 Rhxe4 6. Qd7+ Kf6
and next Re1+ and R5e2+ killing.
Quite some beauty in such a simple position!
Indeed, very pretty- the hidden key move at move 2 for black, 2. …c4!, is the real beauty here. Nice analysis.
1…………Rxf5
2..ef Rxh3
3. if Qxg5 Rh1+
4. Kf2 forced Ng3+ winning the Q
2. If Qf2 or Qe1or QG1 Professor how does it end.
2.Qg1 Nxh3+ wins Q.
On 2.Qf2 Rf6 saves the R
Not thought of intricate variations.
