1. Rxg2
If 1. … Rxg2
2. Be3#
I agree with Anup, but I think there are ways Black to win more material:
1. . . Rxg2
Then if
2. Kb6 Rxe2
If
2. Re1 Rd2
3. Nc1 Rd1
winning the Knight as well.
You’re right. No place for knight after Rd2
After 3… Rd1 what about white plays Rxd1?
Not to worry.
3…. Rd1 4.Rxd1Be3+ 5.Rd4 g2
1.Rh2xBg2,RxRg2 2. Be3#
1. Rxg2
My take:
1. ..Rxg2! 2. Re1 (Rxg2 Be3#) Rg1 3. Kb6 Rxe1 4. Nxe1 Be3+ 5. Kxa5 Bf2 6. Nf3 g2 (followed by ..Bh5) -+
1Rxg2! and if 2.Rxg2 then 2…Be3# if 2.Re1 then 2…g2!-+ immediately and there is no way to prevent the passed pawn.Even though 2…Rd2 can win,2…g2! can win more quickly.
To Noah Yuen:
After
i. . . Rxg2
2. Re1
you cannot advance the black g-pawn without moving the black rook on g2, so:
2. . . Rd2
