1. Nxd6 seems pretty obvious.
Yes: difficult to see
nd6, qd6
qf7+, kh8
qe8+, re8
nf7+, kg8
nd6
I am puzzled. Your “yes” means you agree with Anup. Next phrase contradicts his statement. So I conclude you agree to disagree with him.
A very interesting position. There are two complimentary lines- the obvious one to me is the one Bill outlines above, but I wonder if black is really defending best with 1. …Qxd6- a cursory look seems to indicate that black will be down nearly a full rook in that line. It seems to me that black can limit the damage after 1.Nxd6 by playing, maybe, Rf8. The details are clear for about 4 moves total, but then are messy:
1. Nd6 Rf8
2. Ngf7 Rf7
3. Nc8! Bc8
4. Rac1
And I can’t decide what black should do- give up the knight with Nc5 or try to hang onto material. In any case, this position is also still losing for black regardless.
The other start for white that seems playable is to take at f7 immediately:
1. Nf7 Qf7 (or maybe Kf7?)
2. Nd6 Qb3
3. ab3 ed4 (any better?)
4. Ne8 and this should still have white winning, but I like either of the 1.Nd6 lines above better.
I also had reckoned 1.Nxd6 Rf8 as black’s best damage control. but i feel 2.Nxc8 may be better for white. If 2….. Qxg5 3.Nd6 and be content with gain of exchange and P. If 2…. Rxc8 3.h5 or Nf3 and white has to give back the pawn and gets only exchange. 2…. Ngxf7 looks too risky.
No,
I agree the move is good.
The difficult thing to see was: qf7, kh8, qe8 nf7+.
nd6, rf8
nf7, rf7 (else ne5 or if ed4 nh6 etc)
nc8, bc8
rac1
and what is black to do?
the rook is pinned,
bb7 allows rc7,
nc5 drops the knight
protecting the bishop allows bc4
You are right.
After 4.Rac1 Nc5 5.exd5 white wins back the piece with another P and ready for getting another exchange and the “d” P could become a thorn in flesh if not captured immediately.
5.dxc5 and the “c” P could become thorn in the flesh. error highly regretted.
