I see a problem for white in @Alena’s line. please correct me, if I’m wrong:
Rc7+, Kxe6 seems defensible
(if rook exchange, same basic problem)
if Bh3+, Kd6 and white can do nothing great
hRh7 (to hold onto the rook, otherwise a rook will fall. threatening Rd7+ Nxd7, Rxd7#, maybe exchange down for the knight: …Rxe5, and mate appears to me to be avoided.)
I think holding onto material is important here. Maybe:
Rxe8+, Rxe8 (or the knight will fork king and rook)
maybe then Bh3 (if …Rh8, Ng6+ again a fork),
Can black prevent Rc7+ here? It threatens mate!
if…Kd6 Nf7# if Kf6 Rf7#
And the answer seems to be yes!
…Bd6 (or placing the knight in the corner… if knight on the rim is dim, what is knight in a corner?)
1. Rc7+ Kd6
2. Nf7+ Kxe6
3. Rh6+ Kf5
4. Bh3+ Ke4
5. Rh4+ Kf3
6. Ng5+ Kxf2
7. Rf7+ Kg3
8. Rg4+ Kh2
9. Rg2+ Kh1
