The black king is in trouble. How best to trap him?
Initiating check with either the queen (e3) or the knight (f3) is shortsighted and black survives. However, sacrificing the f pawn with f4+ is lethal, as queen to g4+ is followed by mate with the knight. Even the c pawn gets into the act.
1. f4+ Kxf4
2. Qg4#
Mark, nearly correct:
1. f4+ Kxf4
2. Qg4+ Ke3
3. Nf1#
