After 1. … Qg5! White can’t move the Queen without either (A) allowing Black to capture it with Knight (f2 or e1) or pawn (g3), or (B) giving up control of f2 allowing mate with the Knight (g5, g4, f4, f2, h5, h6, or h3). And of course, if 2. g3, Black can simply play … QxQ, when 3. gxh4 allows … Nf2 mate since the Rook prevents the White King from escaping to g2. So, White loses the Queen or is mated.
Nf2 is smothered mate, so deflect white queen from e1-h4 diagonal by Qg5.
